BradyBondz(TM) Thermal Transfer Printable Glossy Yellow Polyester Label Stock
B-423Y is a thermal transfer printable glossy yellow polyester label stock on a permanent acrylic adhesive, intended for electronic PCB and component identification, bar code labels and rating plates. The sheet ties its UL Recognized Component status to UL969 to being printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free and R6200 ribbons, so the ribbon a customer prints with is part of the approval — and every performance result on the sheet (temperature, humidity, UV, weatherability, salt fog, abrasion) was tested only on samples printed with the R6000 Halogen Free ribbon. On heat, the label is still functional after 30 days at 145°C with moderate discoloration and survives 5 minutes at 200°C, but the sheet states it becomes nonfunctional at 210°C because the label shrinks.

Quality Assurance, Storage & Regulatory Compliance
Standardized engineering guidelines for warehouse storage, application temperature, and agency certifications.
Extracted directly from Brady Technical Data Sheets to prevent real-world application failures and chemical degradation:
- UL Recognition is stated in terms of two specific ribbons. Under REGULATORY/AGENCY APPROVALS the sheet reads, verbatim: "UL: B-423Y is a UL Recognized Component to UL969 Labeling and Marking Standard when printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free and R6200 ribbons. See UL file MH17154 for specific details. UL information can be accessed on line at UL.com. in the UL Product iQ area." The sheet does not state what the status is for any other ribbon.
- Weee-RoHS compliance status is not stated on this sheet — it only points to URLs. The sheet reads: "For information on the Weee-RoHS compliance status for a Brady Product go to one of the following websites:" followed by In Canada: www.bradycanada.ca/weee-rohs; In Europe: www.bradyeurope.com/rohs; In Japan: www.brady.co.jp/products/labelsuse/rohs; All other regions: www.bradyid.com/weee-rohs. No compliance verdict for B-423Y is printed.
- The entire performance properties table is scoped to one ribbon. The unlabeled sentence printed immediately above the PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES table reads: "Performance properties tested on B-423Y printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free ribbon. Printed samples were laminated to aluminum and allowed to dwell 24 hours before exposure to the indicated environments." It carries no row label, so it scopes that table as a whole. None of the high/low temperature, humidity, UV, weatherability, salt fog or abrasion results on this sheet were obtained with the R6200 ribbon.
- Upper temperature limit — the label stops working at 210°C. On the Short Term High Service Temperature row (test method: 5 minutes at various temperatures), the results cell reads "Label becomes nonfunctional at 210°C due to label shrinkage." This verdict belongs to the 5-minute short-term row, not to the 30-day High Service Temperature row, whose highest reported temperature is 145°C.
- R6200 print is removed by three fluids that R6000 print survives. In the chemical resistance table, on the WITH RUB column, R6000 Halogen Free and R6200 diverge on three reagents: Gasoline (R6000 = 1, R6200 = 5), Brake Fluid - DOT 3 (R6000 = 2, R6200 = 5) and Skydrol® 500B-4 (R6000 = 3, R6200 = 5). A 5 is defined by the sheet's own legend as "complete print and/or topcoat removal". These per-ribbon verdicts must not be read across to the other ribbon.
- Five reagents cause adhesive ooze in the label stock itself. The EFFECT TO LABEL STOCK column reads "Slight adhesive ooze" for Acetone, Toluene, Gasoline, JP-8 Jet Fuel and Skydrol® 500B-4. That column is printed once per reagent row and is not split by ribbon, so it describes the label stock and is not attributable to either ribbon individually.
- Chemical resistance data covers a 30-minute room-temperature immersion only. The paragraph above the table reads: "Samples were printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free and the Brady Series R6200 ribbons. Samples were laminated to aluminum panels and allowed to dwell 24 hours prior to testing. Testing was conducted at room temperature and consisted of 30 minute immersions in the specified test fluid. After immersion, the samples were removed from the test fluid and the printed image rubbed 10 times with a cotton swab saturated with the test fluid. The rating scale below shows the effect to the quality of the print for each sample." Nothing on the sheet addresses longer or hotter exposure.
- Values are averages and the sheet forbids using them as specifications. Page 3 carries a labeled note, verbatim: "Note: All values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes." It is followed by: "Test data and test results contained in this document are for general information only and shall not be relied upon by Brady customers for designs and specifications, or be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria. Customers desiring to develop specifications or performance criteria for specific product applications should contact Brady for further information."
- Fitness for use is placed on the customer. The unlabeled paragraph at the foot of page 2, immediately after the rating-scale legend and continuing the shelf-life sentence, reads: "It remains the responsibility of the user to assess the risk of using this product. We encourage customers to develop testing protocols that will qualify a product's fitness for use in their actual application."
- Brady disclaims independent verification of the compliance information. Page 3 reads: "Product compliance information is based upon information provided by suppliers of the raw materials used by Brady to manufacture this product or based on results of testing using recognized analytical methods performed by a third party, independent laboratory. As such, Brady makes no independent representations or warranties, express or implied, and assumes no liability in connection with the use of this information."
- Structural note on an orphan banner row. Between the performance properties table and the chemical resistance paragraph, the sheet prints a two-cell bordered row reading "PERFORMANCE PROPERTY | CHEMICAL RESISTANCE" with no data rows under it. It appears to be a section banner introducing the chemical resistance content rather than a header for the table above it, but its scope is not stated, so no result has been attributed to it.
