Matte Topcoated Polyimide Wirewrap Label Stock

B-472 is a matte topcoated 1 mil polyimide wirewrap label stock with a permanent acrylic adhesive, available in white and yellow, and printable by thermal transfer and dot matrix. The sheet positions it for cable and wire bundle applications and for label applications where self-extinguishing properties are required. Two limits to state up front: Brady states that all values shown are averages that "should not be used for specification purposes" and shall not be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria, and the two-year shelf life holds only while the product stays in its original packaging in an environment below 80° F (27° C) and 60% RH.

Engineering Limitations & Chemical Fitness Warnings

Extracted directly from Brady Technical Data Sheets to prevent real-world application failures and chemical degradation:

  • Regulatory approvals - the sheet states no compliance status. The REGULATORY APPROVALS section reads in full: "For information on the Weee-RoHS compliance status for a Brady Product go to one of the following websites:" followed only by regional URLs — In Canada: www.bradycanada.ca/weee-rohs; In Europe: www.bradyeurope.com/rohs; In Japan: www.brady.co.jp/products/labelsuse/rohs; All other regions: www.bradyid.com/weee-rohs. Any RoHS/WEEE status must be looked up at those URLs; it is not asserted on this sheet.
  • Compliance-information disclaimer, page 4: "Product compliance information is based upon information provided by suppliers of the raw materials used by Brady to manufacture this product or based on results of testing using recognized analytical methods performed by a third party, independent laboratory. As such, Brady makes no independent representations or warranties, express or implied, and assumes no liability in connection with the use of this information."
  • Data-use limitation. Opening the page-4 disclaimer block, immediately after the Trademarks list: "Note: All values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes. Test data and test results contained in this document are for general information only and shall not be relied upon by Brady customers for designs and specifications, or be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria. Customers desiring to develop specifications or performance criteria for specific product applications should contact Brady for further information." This is a document-wide note; it is not attached to any single table or row.
  • No stated verdict against the flammability common maximums. The ASTM E162 row prints "Common Maximum - 35" and the ASTM E662 row prints "Common Maximum / Flaming Mode at 1.5 minutes – 100 / Flaming Mode at 4.0 minutes – 200", both in the TEST METHODS column. The sheet reports measured values against these but prints no pass/fail verdict for either row. Do not state that B-472 passes E162 or E662 on the strength of this sheet.
  • Shelf life and storage limit: "Shelf life is two years from the date of receipt for this product as long as this product is stored in its original packaging in an environment below 80° F (27° C) and 60% RH. It remains the responsibility of the user to assess the risk of using this product. We encourage customers to develop testing protocols that will qualify a product's fitness for use in their actual application."
  • Fitness-for-use limitation, from the WARRANTY block on page 4: "Brady products are sold with the understanding that the buyers will test them in actual use and determine for themselves their adaptability to their intended uses." The same block disclaims "any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose."
  • Ribbon scope of the test data. The performance preamble states testing was done on "the Brady Series R4300 and the Brady Series R6200 ribbons and with the Brady Series R5000 ribbon", and the chemical-resistance preamble names the same three. Brady Series R7950 is listed under RECOMMENDED RIBBONS but is not named in either test statement, so no performance or chemical-resistance result on this sheet is attributed to R7950.
  • Scope of "all ribbons". The sentence "Unless noted, results are the same for all ribbons." closes the preamble paragraph sitting immediately above the PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES table. Its "all ribbons" refers to the three ribbons named earlier in that same paragraph (R4300, R6200, R5000), not to the four ribbons in the RECOMMENDED RIBBONS list.
  • Scope of the rub result. The sentence "Results are the same without and with rub unless stated otherwise." closes the preamble paragraph sitting immediately above the 15 MINUTE IMMERSION table. The sheet does not restate it above the 24 HOUR IMMERSION table.
  • Footnotes: this sheet carries no numbered footnotes.

Chemical & Solvent Resistance Matrix

Standardized dip and rub immersion test observations across industrial fuels, oils, solvents, and cleaners.

"Chemical Resistance tested on B-472 white and yellow printed with Series R4300 and R6200 ribbons and with the Brady Series R5000 ribbon. Samples laminated to aluminum panels and allowed to dwell 24 hours prior to testing. Test conducted at room temperature. Testing consisted of 15 minute and 24 hour immersions in the specified test fluid followed by rubbing on print 10 times with cotton swab saturated with test fluid. Results are the same without and with rub unless stated otherwise."
