Polymer Coated Cloth Tape

Apply B-500 at 50°F (10°C) or warmer — that is the lowest application temperature on the sheet, measured to stainless steel. It is a polymer coated cloth tape with a printable topcoat and a rubber based pressure sensitive adhesive, described as a general purpose material for pre-printed labeling and wire marking applications requiring durability and economy, with good oil and water resistance, good print durability, and excellent flexibility for wrapping around curved surfaces. All of the environmental and chemical testing on this sheet was run on pre-printed **white** wiremarkers and unprinted flat samples, and Brady notes those results may be different on colored B-500 wiremarkers.

Engineering Limitations & Chemical Fitness Warnings

Extracted directly from Brady Technical Data Sheets to prevent real-world application failures and chemical degradation:

  • No agency approvals, certifications, or standards-conformance status of any kind appear on this sheet, and no URL is given for them. The only compliance text is a disclaimer: "Product compliance information is based upon information provided by suppliers of the raw materials used by Brady to manufacture this product or based on results of testing using recognized analytical methods performed by a third party, independent laboratory. As such, Brady makes no independent representations or warranties, express or implied, and assumes no liability in connection with the use of this information."
  • Colored wiremarkers are outside the data on this sheet. Verbatim, immediately below the chemical resistance table: "Note: Environmental aging and chemical resistance test results may be different on colored B-500 wiremarkers."
  • Values are not specification-grade. Verbatim: "Note: All values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes." The sheet continues: "Test data and test results contained in this document are for general information only and shall not be relied upon by Brady customers for designs and specifications, or be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria. Customers desiring to develop specifications or performance criteria for specific product applications should contact Brady for further information."
  • Minimum application temperature: 50°F (10°C), stated as the lowest application temperature to stainless steel. The sheet gives no lowest application temperature for any other surface.
  • "High Service Temperature" and "Low Service Temperature" on this sheet are test conditions with an observed result (30 days at 175°F (80°C); 30 days at -40°F (-40°C)), not a rated continuous service temperature range. The sheet states no service temperature rating.
  • Shelf life is conditional on storage. Verbatim: "Product testing, customer feedback, and history of similar products, support a customer performance expectation of at least two years from the date of receipt for this product as long as this product is stored in its original packaging in an environment below 80 degrees F (27°C) and 60% RH . We are confident that our product will perform well beyond this time frame. However, it remains the responsibility of the user to assess the risk of using such product. We encourage customers to develop functional testing protocols that will qualify a product's fitness for use, in their actual applications."
  • Chemicals that produced outright failure in testing, by column (see the table below; never carry one column's verdict to the other): on the wiremarker — Methyl Ethyl Ketone ("Marker fell off"), 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, Skydrol® 500B-4, and 10% Sodium Hydroxide Solution ("Severe unwrap"). On the flat sample — Methyl Ethyl Ketone and 1,1,1-Trichloroethane (both "adhesive failure"), Skydrol® 500B-4 ("Topcoat delaminated from cloth"), and 10% Sodium Hydroxide Solution ("Severe edge lift").
  • Metric values are conversions, not independent measurements. Verbatim, in the trademarks block: "All S.I. Units (metric) are mathematically derived from the U.S. Conventional Units." (This sentence appears twice in the extracted text, once with stray "!" characters — an artifact of the source file, not a second statement.)
  • Warranty is limited. The sheet states products are "sold with the understanding that the buyers will test them in actual use and determine for themselves their adaptability to their intended uses," limits Brady's obligation "to replacement of the product," states the warranty "does not extend to any persons obtaining the product from the buyers," excludes "any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose," and excludes liability for "consequential damages of any kind."
