Raised Panel Label

Brady B-593 is a gloss polyester raised panel label with a permanent acrylic, foam backed adhesive, printed by thermal transfer, designed for patch panel identification and for rating and serial plates that require name plate quality. Its UL and cUL Recognized Component status is not blanket - it applies only to specific label colour plus ribbon combinations, and estimated outdoor durability likewise varies from 3 to 10 years depending on which label colour and ribbon are paired. The sheet also states that all values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes.

B-593 Application & Installation Blueprint

Raised Panel Push-Button Plate (Engraved Replacement) • Physical application tolerances and surface engineering
Industrial Fit Certified
B-593 real-world industrial application
Installed in real-world industrial environment
Raised Panel Nameplate Installation
1Clean electrical cabinet surface with isopropyl alcohol to remove machine cutting fluids.
2Peel thick release liner and position plate centered over 22mm or 30mm push button hole cutout.
3Press firmly across foam surface; closed-cell foam backing compresses and creates permanent solvent barrier.
Engineering Tolerance: 0.65 mm foam-backed polyester replicates rigid engraved Bakelite plates at 80% lower cost and zero wait time.

Engineering Limitations & Chemical Fitness Warnings

Extracted directly from Brady Technical Data Sheets to prevent real-world application failures and chemical degradation:

  • UL, verbatim: "B-593 (white, metallized, yellow, red and green) is a UL Recognized Component when printed with the Brady Series R6000 and the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free ribbons. B-593 (red, green and black) is a UL Recognized Component when printed with the Brady Series R4400 white ribbon. See UL file MH17154 for specific details. UL information can be accessed on-line at UL.com in the UL Product iQ area."
  • cUL, verbatim: "cUL: B-593 (white, metallized, yellow, red and green) is a cUL Recognized Component when printed with the Brady Series R6000 ribbon. B-593 (red, green and black) is a cUL Recognized Component when printed with the Brady Series R4400 white ribbon. See UL file PGJI8.MH17154 for specific details. UL information can be accessed on-line at UL.com in the UL Product iQ area."
  • The UL and cUL statements do not name the same ribbon set. For white, metallized, yellow, red and green, the UL sentence covers "the Brady Series R6000 and the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free ribbons", whereas the cUL sentence covers only "the Brady Series R6000 ribbon". The sheet does not state a cUL status for those colours printed with the R6000 Halogen Free ribbon. The two approvals also cite different file numbers: MH17154 for UL, PGJI8.MH17154 for cUL.
  • Weee-RoHS: the sheet states no compliance status. It gives only referral URLs: "For information on the Weee-RoHS compliance status for a Brady Product go to one of the following websites: In Canada: www.bradycanada.ca/weee-rohs / In Europe: www.bradyeurope.com/rohs / In Japan: www.brady.co.jp/products/labelsuse/rohs / All other regions: www.bradyid.com/weee-rohs"
  • Footnote below the accelerated weathering table, verbatim: "*print can be rubbed off with finger". The matching asterisk appears on the 9100-hour entry "Severe print removal, print is barely legible*" in the "Effect to R4400W Series Printing" column.
  • Unlabelled note directly below the accelerated weathering table, verbatim: "Based on internal testing results, 800 hours in the Weatherometer is approximately equivalent to one year of outdoor exposure in Wisconsin." It carries no row or column label and appears immediately after the 9100-hour block.
  • Scope of the environmental test table, verbatim: "B-593 white, silver, yellow, red and green label samples were printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free ribbon and B-593 black, red and green label samples were printed with the Brady Series R4400W ribbon and dwelled for 24 hours prior to test." Colour and ribbon combinations outside those listed were not covered by that table.
  • Per-colour results in the accelerated weathering table are not reliably recoverable beyond the 1000-hour interval. From 2400 hours onward the "Effect to Label Color" text does not line up one-for-one with the six label-colour rows: at 2400 hours the phrase "Severe discoloration," sits on the Red line while "retains a trace of red" sits on the Green line, and at 9100 hours the labels "Red" and "Green" share a single line. Individual per-colour verdicts at 2400, 4800 and 9100 hours should not be quoted from this sheet.
  • At the 1000-hour interval the "Effect To R6000 Halogen Free Series Printing" column carries one spanning sentence, verbatim: "No visible effect for all label colors." A lone "n/a" also sits in that same column at the 1000-hour interval, on the line occupied by Silver; the sheet does not label which colour that "n/a" belongs to.
  • The 9100-hour entry in the "Effect to R4400W Series Printing" column, verbatim: "Severe print removal, print is barely legible*". It spans the top two lines of the 9100-hour block, adjacent to White and to the merged "Red Green" line, so the sheet does not make clear which label colours it covers.
  • The chemical resistance tables are headed "SUBJECTIVE OBSERVATION OF VISUAL CHANGE" and "EFFECTS TO THE PRINTED IMAGE". The result codes describe the printed image, not the label substrate or adhesive.
  • In the B-593 White / R6000 Halogen Free chemical table, n-Hexane and Iso-octane are marked "Not tested" across both the Without Rub and With Rub columns.
  • Shelf life is conditional on storage, verbatim: "Shelf life is two years from the date of receipt for this product as long as this product is stored in its original packaging in an environment below 80° F (27° C) and 60% RH. It remains the responsibility of the user to assess the risk of using this product. We encourage customers to develop testing protocols that will qualify a product's fitness for use in their actual application."
  • Note at the end of the sheet, verbatim: "Note: All values shown are averages and should not be used for specification purposes."
  • Disclaimer, verbatim: "Test data and test results contained in this document are for general information only and shall not be relied upon by Brady customers for designs and specifications, or be relied on as meeting specified performance criteria. Customers desiring to develop specifications or performance criteria for specific product applications should contact Brady for further information."
  • Compliance disclaimer, verbatim: "Product compliance information is based upon information provided by suppliers of the raw materials used by Brady to manufacture this product or based on results of testing using recognized analytical methods performed by a third party, independent laboratory. As such, Brady makes no independent representations or warranties, express or implied, and assumes no liability in connection with the use of this information."

"B-593 white printed with the Brady Series R6000 Halogen Free ribbon and B-593 black printed with the Brady Series R4400 white ribbon, and dwelled 24 hours prior to test. Testing consisted of 5 cycles of 10 minute immersions in the specified chemical reagent followed by 30 minute recovery periods. After final immersion, samples rubbed 10 times with cotton swab saturated with test fluid."
