2. Dwell Time: The Fine Print That Makes Peel Numbers Comparable
Pressure-sensitive adhesion is not instantaneous — it is a viscous flow process. On contact, the adhesive touches only the peaks of the surface microstructure; over the following hours it flows into the valleys, and measured peel force climbs accordingly. TDS values therefore always state a dwell: 15 or 20 minutes for the "fresh" number, 24 or 72 hours for the built number. Do not stress-test a label five minutes after application and call the result — the acrylic has not finished wetting out. Apply with firm pressure, at or above the minimum application temperature, and give permanent acrylics 24–72 hours before wash-down, solvent wipe, or peel judgment. Rubber-based systems are closer to full strength immediately, which is exactly why they win time-critical field work.
3. The Pre-Application Checklist That Prevents 90% of Failures
